  • According to Steve Bell, it sounds like Marshall Plumlee’s family (not Marshall himself) was in Ann Arbor this weekend.

  • Tom, Too.

    That is huge….

  • Duffy

That Andy Katz article is awesome :

Video coordinator Matt Duprey has simplified Beilein’s laptop icons to make it easier for him to use. Duprey is almost like Kramer on “Seinfeld.” If Beilein yells from his office for help with a program or an edit, Duprey comes bursting through the door. Maybe he’s not as animated in his entrances as actor Michael Richards, but he doesn’t hesitate when summoned.

“He’s always here,” Beilein said. “I caught him going to the bathroom once. It really pissed me off.”

  • Bluebufoon

Dylan– Do you believe Plumlee’s family made the trip to Ann Arbor without Marshall ? It doesn’t make sense for Perky Plumlee to travel to Ann Arbor without his son ? If the Plumlee’s travelled to Ann Arbor
this weekend one would figure Marshall Plumlee would have been along for the visit– or am I missing something ?

  • Dylan- Is there any news leaking re. the scrimmage vs. EMU yesterday?
I guess when they said “secret” scrimmage, they weren’t kidding. :-)

  • Dylan

Haven’t heard anything. Scrimmage was obviously locked down like it has been the last two years. Some leaks came from Kent St. Before but not much this year. Eastern is also not a great team, so it was probnly just a lot of experimenting. Friday will be more of the same but also live for the world to see.

  • Tyler

Thanks for posting up some new news, I enjoyed the ESPN article about Beilein. I definitely enjoy him as a coach and he definitely values his job a lot. Only 3 more days guys!! I’d love to see everyone just step up this year it’d be great and we can put MSU in there place. Looking forward to a great season.

    Go Blue!

  • Respectful Green

Man, isn’t Kearney supposed to announce tomorrow? I’ve seen zero word or coverage. Sure, talk is MSU but I’m not buying my G&W Kearney jersey just yet.

  • I believe tomorrow is the day. I haven’t heard anything new and would still expect an MSU decision. We’ll see.

  • Also, on Kearney, I think that he was at the Breslin for the Northwood game as well.

  • Sam

I think I just found a new blog to add to my long list of required reading: The Mid-Majority. That Epilouge article was one of the most touching things I have ever read and really puts into words a true fan’s love of the game.

  • Sam: Whelliston is certainly required reading. He puts his heart and soul into his craft.

  • JBlair52

I dont know why Marshall wouldnt have gone to Michigan but FYI if I remember correctly when UM was recruiting Mason the family came up then and REALLY loved it and really liked Beilein.

  • Marshall also goes to school in North Carolina which could be part of the reason.

  • mmccrae

If kearney goes green what does that do to the Zeigler situation?

  • Not much in my opinion. Michigan is in a good spot with Trey, it’s a waiting game now for the Spring. Common feeling seems to be that it is CMU, UM, and UCLA (in no order).

Trey has been to Ann Arbor a ton, and he obviously likes it, brought his mother, etc.

MSU seems to be out of room unless he fills Kalin Lucas’ scholarship if he goes pro early.

The Spring signing period is just so far away. Should be a fun wait :-)

  • JB

Dylan – Do you think Tyler Lamb going to UCLA will have any effect on Zeigler’s decision?

  • JB

I know Lamb’s commitment to UCLA is old news and it sounds like Zeigler is thought to be better. I don’t know much about UCLA’s guard situation, maybe they could easily move Zeigler or Lamb to the 3. It sounds like Lamb is no slouch.

  • JB: I think he took his official to UCLA after Lamb was already committed right? I think these kids want to play with the best so they aren’t going to be dramatically shifted by just one player. But I admit, I’m not that familiar with Lamb’s recruitment.

  • JB

Thanks. I think so too. But at that time, I think there was still a good chance of Prather coming to UM. I know Zeigler probably won’t commit until Spring, but I imagine he’ll know where he’s going before then. It seems logical for him to put things on hold to see how his dad’s situation ends up. I guess I was just wondering if there’s any more insight into the situation since it seems like things are always changing. I guess I know the answer is we’ll just have to be patient and wait and see.

  • Dave

im going to be very perplexed if kearney goes to state……if that is the case then beilein must feel real confident about getting trey b/c i just dont understand letting kearney, who wanted to commit to michigan 3 months ago go. if trey doesnt come to michigan then we squandered a very good player for no reason

  • Wow, what a change in UM sports. Here we are talking about basketball getting top notch recruits, national rankings and competing for the upper division of the Big Ten, while football is totally going in the opposite direction.

  • JRose

As usual Dylan, great work! I was just wondering if a Kearney to MSU commitment increases our chances with TZ? Trey would be a huge get for UM…I think he would fit nicely into Coach B’s system.

  • Tyler

You have to think with the more recruits that MSU gets and especially from that position it tends to turn a recruit away from that school. Why play when your not going to start or get a lot of time? So officially no news from the emu “scrimmage”?

  • Taddie

Kearney going to MSU will have really no impact on us getting Zeigler. MSU is not getting Zeigler at this point. They just got a HUGE recruit in Adreian Payne, and with him have no more room on their roster. And as was previously said, Kearney going to State is a big repercussion from Brundidge coming to Michigan.

  • Sam

A couple of things: 1. I don’t think Kearney’s decision has any effect on Zeigler’s decision unless Kearney chooses Michigan, then we wouldn’t have a place for Zeigler, but I don’t see this happening. IMO, I don’t think State has had a good chance of landing Zeigler in a while now, but we’ll see what happens.

As for the scrimmage, a kid at the Maize Rage meeting said that he had a friend that is a manager for EMU. He said that he told him that Manny didn’t play much due to his hammy, Novak was cold, Cronin shot “about 5 threes”, and Vogrich was apparently making it rain. That’s all the info that he had, other than saying they had two 20-minute scrimmages.

  • Brandan Kearney will announce his decision at 11 am tomorrow morning.

  • Giddings

Should we start to worry about Manny’s hamstring? I know that JB is going to be as safe as possible before the season starts because there’s no need to test it too much, but for some reason I get the feeling that this could be a chronic thing. He’s had the injury for at least 3-4 weeks now and hasn’t played in any games or anything that would aggravate it (besides Michigan Madness).

I don’t wanna jinx it or anything, and I ultimately think he’ll be fine, at least in time for the Old Spice Classic, but is anyone else concerned?

  • Giddings: I wouldn’t worry. And I wouldn’t worry if he gets limited run Friday either.

The religious readers of UMHoops might find this link interesting:

  • Tyler

    Wow great read good find

  • GregGoBlue

Does anybody know if BTN offers viewing of the scrimmage after it’s over in addition to the live feed a la ESPN360?

  • Thanks for the link, YpsiTuckyBoy.
