You can't be serious keeping Deibler in the starting five. He is definitely no better than MAC caliber and has proven this with his consistent lackluster shooting. This comes from a highly touted/can't miss shooter from Upper Sandusky. He is completely overrated and has had more than ample chance to prove if he is Div.I material. He isn't.

Bob's predictions are pretty good, actually. OSU won't go 11-7 or 10-8 unless there's another major injury (i.e., season-ending injury to Turner, Buford, Lighty or Lauderdale). OSU plays MSU and NU once each. Bob does cover other sports in the summer, like golf and horse racing - he also has put his 2-cents in on OSU football occasionally.

As an OSU fan, this team feels a lot like the 2005-06 team because of several reasons: they're bringing back a lot of the key guys from the prior season, they aren't really adding anyone new except a transfer who sat out last season and practiced with the team, and the only guy(s) they lost from the prior year were significant disappointments. This is probably the most experienced team Matta has had at OSU on a per-player basis. I think they'll have more depth at guard than this preview makes it seem - Hill ought to be a pretty good 6th man, and along with Simmons also being an option, Offutt having a breakout year would add another element there (as noted by Bob). They could afford an injury to Diebler with little to no drop-off.

The center position is the only significant flaw on this team. Lauderdale really has to step up, and Zisis has to stay healthy and give the team some quality backup minutes. I think too many people are knocking this team for not having a "point guard" when they have an adequate replacement by virtue of having a "point forward" instead.

What, you couldn't get Mark Titus? :)

More seriously: How does OSU rate having such a top-notch basketball-only beat writer? (I'm assuming he's basketball-only, at least, based on his blog.)

I don't think Turner will play pg for the whole season. I think he'll be a lot more effective when he's not on pg duty, and they have other guys who can get the ball up the court. whatever though.

I agree with James...he basically says how hard the big ten is and then how OSU is going to only lose 4 games in it. However, I didn't look at their schedule either...maybe they only play state and Purdue once otherwise that could be 4 losses right there.

That's a very optimistic prediction. I wouldn't say unrealistic, but 10-8 or 11-7 in conference is more likely, IMO.
