Great win for Darius and Windward! That’s a huge rivalry game for them and to win it on the road is impressive. Looks like he hit some big shots and free throws down the stretch.
Before last year, I didn’t see the bias of ESPN, but now with the Lakers and Celtics dominating one half of Sportscenter and Duke dominating the other half, it’s become painfully clear that there is a major bias…
Whats wrong with posting premium links? Some of us have accounts to Rivals, but don’t have the time to dig up every story.
Yeah, Dylan runs the site remember?
That was my comment added in. Don’t want direct links to the video, which wasn’t protected, posted.
On another note, do any of you think that storming the court after beating Duke hurt us?
That’s the kind of thing that gets in kids’ heads and they think they’ve arrived and don’t stay hungry.
There are a lot of other factors of course, but the mental focus seems to have peaked in that game, and maybe never returned.
Anyway, the good thing if we win 4 of the next 6, then it helps the Last 10 Games factor for the committee.
I posted a link to the video because it is just hosted at some random site and there was nothing about it that suggested that it was owned by Rivals or that it was professionally done – so I didn’t realize it was theirs. The comment on the bottom was Dylan calling me out for posting it instead of just removing it.
Stacy’s Mom has got it going on….
Not trying to “call anyone out”. I know the video isn’t on rivals servers but Rivals did the video and you have to give them credit for that. Sorry if you took offense, it wasn’t personal.
You can tell we’re all a little cranky from nearly getting our bubble burst. I’ll tell you what though. The more I look at the remaining 6 games the better I feel. If we are a legit tourney team then we would expect ourselves to win 4 out of 6 anyway. All we really have to do is pull one upset. And of course win the games we’re supposed to win. But I’ll certainly be hanging on every game until we lose two. And even after that, we have the B10 tourney to provide us with hope. If we don’t make the tourney then I’ll look back on these last games as our tourney. Let’s just do the damn thing.
Just read on an MLive message board that TZ was participating in the Go Green, Go White chant at the end of the game on Tuesday. I’d say that’s a bad sign.
And Patrick Beverley was cheering along to Hail to the Victors and jumping up and down celebrating our NIT win over ND. He committed to Arkansas two weeks later.
There is a lot of time left in Trey’s recruitment so who knows.
Ah, Patrick Beverley. Getting either him or Scottie Reynolds might have saved Amaker’s career. If I remember properly, Beverley was ready to sign but then got wowed by all that Walmart Money Arkansas had to create facilities. Then his coach got fired and he got kicked off the team.
In any case, does Northwestern blowing a 14 point lead with 5 minutes left against Illinois tonight make it more or less likely we can beat them Sunday?
Let’s say more likely.
One thing making me feel better about the rest of the season is that we have 3+ days rest before 4 of the 6 remaining games. We have typically played our best basketball on 3 or more days rest. Also, this isn’t an arbitrary amount of days, I’ve heard Beilein mention the difference between 3 and 2 days of practice.
Michigan Tech 4 Days W 77-55
UCLA 7 Days W 55-52
Norfolk St. 3 Days W 83-49
Savannah St. 3 Days W 66-64
Maryland 3 Days L 75-70
EMU 6 Days W 91-60
Oakland 6 Days W 89-76
NCC 6 Days W 77-57
Ill (H) 3 Days W 74-64
Iowa (H) 3 Days W 64-49
NW (H) 3 Days W 68-59
OSU 3 Days L 72-54
PSU (H) 4 Days W 71-51
Record with 3+ Days Rest 11-2
Record with 0-2 Days Rest 4-9
(Those 4 wins were against Northeastern, Duke, Florida Gulf Coast, and IU)
I’d say most people would agree that even though we lost, the Maryland game was one of our better road performances of the year. If you take that game away, we’ve really only had one bad game after 3+ days off (OSU), and only one quality win with less than 3 days off (Duke). With extra rest, we’ve looked very impressive against UCLA, Illinois, Northwestern, and PSU.
To me, this says two things. First, obviously the extra rest allows the team to rest and since we’re not all that deep, we need to be fresh. Secondly, the more practices you have leading up to game, the more there is a chance to put in a coaching gameplan. I think this speaks volumes about JB’s ability to gameplan.
Here’s how the rest shakes out before the remaining 6 games
@ NW 4 Days
Minn 3 Days
@ Iowa 2 Days
Purdue 3 Days
@ Wisconsin 2 Days
@ Minn 5-6 Days
Given this, I expect a loss against Wisconsin. I think the short rest before Iowa could be canceled out by the extra rest before the previous two games. I also really like the extended rest leading to the last Minnesota game. If we only win three of the next five, that would be our play-in game.
Great breakdown, UMQuasi. You certainly have some good points and the results back them up. I would call Northeastern a quality win, but like us, they were only on 1 days rest.
A win at Minnesota would be giant if it were to come to that.
Great work UMQuasi. Good analysis. I think we still have a chance, and with this data, that proves we are still in the mix.
