Video Interview: Darius Morris

My good friends at Ball Is Life posted a great video interview with Darius Morris. Ball Is Life is a great site for basketball fans and definitely worth checking out.  If you missed the earlier highlights of Darius this season make sure you check out the recruiting videos link on the right side bar.

If you are looking for post-game coverage of the Northwestern game it’s right here (or just scroll down). Also be sure to check out the recap of Matt Vogrich’s big win over Illinois bound Brandon Paul.

That interview was a GREAT get, Dylan. No better coverage of Michigan hoops anywhere. Keep it up.

Very cool interview. You can get a sense from it what a genuinely nice and humble kid he is. Not sure who he plays AAU for but I think being at Windward has sheltered him a bit from the negative influences of the prep basketball scene. I don’t think it was just his ability on the court that led Beilein to recruit a kid from across the country.

Towards the end of the interview they mention that Darius played on the same AAU team as Brandon Jennings and DeMar DeRozan (Belmont Shore), two of the top rated recruits in the nation last year… so I doubt he’s been sheltered too much from negative influences. Probably is a good thing that he goes to Windward though.

Who is the better point guard right now…Darius Morris of Kelvin Grady?

    Good question…

Really hard to answer but here are some thinking points…

Size: Darius has the clear advantage
Speed: Kelvin has the clear advantage
Experience: Kelvin has the clear advantage
Shooting: I’d go with Kelvin right now…
Penetrating Ability: I’d go with Darius
Finishing at the rim: I don’t think this is the best part of either of their games… Darius probably has more potential because of his size.

I think Darius definitely contributes next year though. I think it’s safe to say that he will bring more than Dave Merritt.

to say kelvin is a better shooter is a long shot…..all he does is shoot threes i dont feel thats justification and all i have been reading about lately is darius’ non ability to penetrate and get by defenders so that is mysterious to me as well, apparently both arent that good at it…….darius is a top 100 recruit however…..he needs to be better than kelvin in just about everything except quickness i would suspect and obviously experience….but if you are a top 100 recruit (rivals)and considered one of the best point guards out west/in the country you better be able to bring it

I have seen Darius play in person and he is going to be way better than Grady by the time he hits Ann Arbor. He is a solid all around player if you read the scouting reports on espn penetrating and get by defenders is the least of his worries. Morris is NBA type point guard so you cant even compare Grady and him. He will have a great career for us the only question is how soon he can adapt to college hoops
