The regents approved the practice facility today in a unanimous decision:
The University of Michigan Regents today unanimously approved the athletic department’s plan to move forward with a $23.2-million basketball practice facility project.
Though U-M athletic director Bill Martin said there still is not a major donor, he hopes to draw significant donations. If not, the department has the resources to cover the project, he said.
The Basketball Player Development Center, to be built next to Crisler Arena, will cover about 50,000 square feet and include two practice courts, team locker rooms, a video theater, areas for strength and conditioning, athletic medicine and coaching and staff offices.
good news but again the time cannot be worse. I hope that they will start the project and the donation will pour in later once the economy turns the corner. It is an off topic, but I am extremely disappointed at Obama’s inaction so far on the economic crisis, especially the banking sector. There are a lot of market manipulators out whose goal is to bring down the entire banking system for their own monetary benefits, and this has to be stopped by regulation.
Hopefully the fact that our practice facility has been built later means it will be nicer and more advanced than any of the other Big Ten Schools.
That being said, there *is* no market right now Kenny. Its *all* speculators. The real money is on the sidelines, looking for a safe haven to wait out the storm. There is no doubt in my mind that the government will spend whatever it takes to reinflate stock prices.
Let’s try to stay away from politics… There are better forums for that I’m sure.
Dylan, I hope that we don’t have to discuss this but if there is no money, there is no practice facility. I am not sure that Martin can fund this without a major donation, and/or a loan or issuing a bond.
And Frank I am not worrying about Stock price and/or housing price which is taking its deserved correction, but I am worrying about an industry that provides the basic function to the capitalism economy. Anyway, I will stop right here.
Kenny: If not, the department has the resources to cover the project, he said.
