Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to everyone.
Coverage has been a bit light this week but it’ll start picking up again heading into a big week as we near the Big Ten season.
UMHoops just passed its first birthday and I just wanted to thank all of you who have stopped by, commented, or told your friends about the site. Hopefully I can do a better job blogging in my 2nd year, we’re one year in but I would agree with KJ that the 10,000 hour rule definitely applies to blogging.
If you are dying for some hoops talk check out Sam Webb’s article in the Detroit News on ‘11 phenom Carlton Brundidge as well as Go Blue Wolverine’s take on ‘10 wing Casey Prather ($). Brundidge is a legit candidate for top dog in Michigan’s loaded class of 2011 while Prather is an intriguing wing prospect from Tennessee.
Happy Birthday Jesus & UMHoops. Great site, Dylan. Looking forward to Year 2.
Great job with the site, I’m a fan.
Keep it up.
Happy Holidays!!!
Thanks for taking the time to share your passion for UM Bball. You run circles around Scout in reporting on UM BBALL. In fact, GBW sucks big donkey balls in BBall coverage. If they were smart, they’d hire you.
Merry Christmas Everyone. I have been a member of this .com for almost a year. Dylan you have done a great job, this kind of stuff is great for fans and you keep it coming day and night. Once again great job and Im very excited for this year and many years to come as I know that UMhoops.com will become even more intense, exciting, interesting…ect as JB gets this program off and running!
Dylan, I hate to be that guy, but you got your “its” and “it’s” mixed up, and I’m a grammar snob so it bugs me. “Its” is the “it” equivalent of his, hers, ours, theirs, etc. “It’s” is a contraction of “it is.” To employ them correctly:
Today, it’s December 26, and umhoops has just passed its first birthday.
Having said that, I love the site!
Dylan, happy holidays. UMHoops is definitely one of my favorite blogs.
#24 in the blogpoll woo!!

anyone with a membership to rivals? There is an article titled “McLimans heating up for Worcester” and I was just wondering how well he did.
It was from dec 26th. And what I can read says: “The silky smooth jumper that earned Worcester (Mass.) Academy big man Blake McLimans offers from Michigan and several other high majors has returned. The U-M commitment went through an adjustment period after choosing to spend a fifth prep year at Worcester out of Hamburg (N.Y.) High near Buffalo, but he’s picking it up …”
Blake McLimans is up to 218-pounds and supposedly he scored 10 points in the first half versus two quality teams and 13 points in another. Sounds like there was an adjustment period and now that he has his feet underneath him McLimans sounds more confident and more comfortable against that level of competition.
Yup, Blake is playing better and better. It’s a transition from high school ball but he’s starting to get it. The key is that he is so comfortable on the perimeter for a 6-10 guy. I’ll try to get some Blake highlights up in the next couple weeks.
How heavily involved is UM recruiting Ray McCallum?
U-M is recruiting Ray but at this point I wouldn’t bet on him ending up at Michigan. Early on in his recruitment a lot of talk has been about Kansas. There is a ways to go but we’ll see.
Ray McCallum is as good a JR PG prospect as is there is. If I were Coach Beilein I would take McCallum with Ziegler and Will Regan then call it a day for the class of 2010. I know that would give U-M multiple PG’s but Kansas and Villanova have been know to play two to three PG’s at one time with a lot of success.
I’m sure that Beilein would love to have Ray but
I just don’t think the chances are very good.
OSU was embarrased by WVU today, something like a 28 point loss to an unranked opponent. Now just watch theese clowns rank them ahead of UM this week. OSU had NO chance to beat Miami until their best player got ejected, this is a vastly over rated team. I dont care about Lighty being out, big deal.
I agree that McCallum’s a long-shot but I would love to have him. The kid is as good as it gets.
Not sure what happened to OSU yesterday. That game was close until WVU ended the game on a 31-8 something run.
In the free press today, there was a poll asking who the best college basketball team int he state of michigan is. 67.4% Michigan, 24.6% MSU. EAT IT SPARTY!

all access with coach beilein from the BTN, pretty awesome stuff with clips from practice
Just saw on maxpreps.com that at the MaxPreps Holiday Classic, Darius Morris led all scorers with 22 points in a 54-50 opening round win over Bellarmine Prep. In their 2nd round game they lost to Bellevue (WA) 57-48 and Darius scored 18.
There is some video of the loss to Bellevue on the site – Darius has a few highlights on it (he is #1). This link should get you there:

OSU will be another guard down now that Crater is transferring. Rivals reported that he will leave the Big Ten to seek a faster tempo team.
WTHEF, thanks for the link. Pretty cool!
Noopy always seemed like the type of recruit who defers to his “handlers”. I wouldn’t be surprised if that is a big reason for his surprise transfer.
As much as I hate OSU and Thad Matta, I think Matta is actually a relatively clean coach. Can’t say the same about Tressel…
Wow! Just realized that Indiana lost at home tonight to Lipscomb. We better take care of business down there… if not, it would be embarrassing.
Speaking if the handlers, my perception is that Beilein’s recruiting philosophy is to stay away from those handlers, and those handlers do not like him either. Such approach make his recruits more likely come from relatively affluent families, in which family members have much more influence than those handlers. But I am not sure to what degree my perception is true.
Hey guys, I’ve been out of power and internet and just got home late last night. A links and preview post is coming soon but recruiting might have to wait until tomorrow.
Thanks for the link JD, that was awesome stuff!!
