Once I heard his name, I immediately knew his great point/combo guard pedigree. I attended Detroit Cass Tech in the early seventies when both his dad, Laval Perry, and younger brother, Darrell, were very intelligent all-city guards. Laval later starred at the University of Detroit. Darrell went on to play college ball in the south. I grew up around the block from Lucas-Perry's mother and her high achieving siblings. If I recall correctly, three of the five siblings are either a medical doctor or dentist. My money is on Lucas Perry to be a success, on and off the court.

[...] Laval Lucas-Perry’s debut has finally arrived. Frankly, coming into this year I didn’t expect much from this team before December 20th and now I don’t know what to think. I figured that Michigan would struggle with teams like UCLA, Southern Illinois, Duke, and Maryland and be sitting a lot closer to 500 than 7-2. Now if they can pull off wins over Oakland, Florida Gulf Coast, and NC Central they are looking at a potential record of 10-2 headed into the conference season. Most impressive is the fact that they have achieved all this without the help of LLP. [...]

I honestly think that LLP is the push Michigan gets into March Madness (not Feb. Madness NIT). I believe they will make it this year to the tournament might make it the first round or so and next year i really believe to be one of the top 3 Big Ten teams in the conference.

Good call Jay. I hope steals and loose balls will make up for our inability to rebound the basketball(especially when Peedi is out)
LLP kind of reminds me of Russell Robinson from Kansas, or even Darren Collison from UCLA, only with a much smoother looking stroke than Darren's. And so what a group of guards we are shaping up to have for the next few years!! Exciting to say the least.

People seem to focus on LLP's potential emergence as a third option behind Manny and DeShawn, but I'm equally excited about what he brings on the defensive end. Coach Beilein's 1-3-1 defensive approach is predicated on forcing turnovers, which should ideally better than offset the rebounding disadvantages. Those TO's can lead to easy points on the other end, including spot up 3's for Novak/Douglass. We'll be better on the defensive end with LLP in there.

LLP will bring a tremendous amount of toughness sprinkle with the LP pedegree & what you see with the results are gonna surprise some, but not the knowledgeable Hoopsters. He's gonna bridge Old & New School to the court. You'll see.
