Seriously I love the way you are thinking but I’m just not going to get excited over the possibility of UM landing Zeigler. He has stated he wants to play for championships. I hope UM makes the tourney in ‘10 but let’s for argument sake say they dont. That would be 12 straight years without an NCAA tourney apperence. It would be a tough sell especially to a kid who will have offers from most of the top programs in the country. Morris was a nice start for Beilein. A kid with a few high major offers. The next step is Lubick and Zeigler who will have offers from the likes of Duke, UCLA, Michigan State, Kansas, and ETC.

Harris was an Amaker recruit. Also I like Jordan Morgan a lot but he’s not on the levek if Sims and Harris or even Morris. Those are Top 100 recruits. Morgans not in the Top 150. He will be a great role player.

From what I’ve read on Zeigler, he seems intrigued by the idea of resurrecting Michigan Basketball. Michigan Basketball is a sleeping giant and bringing the program back to elite status could be extremely fulfilling. The Michigan brand is unparalleled, the only thing that is missing is a winning basketball team.

Personally, I think the lure of playing close to home for one of the most respected programs (and we are, as a PROGRAM–im not talking about our recent success) and the opportunity to be one of the saviors gives us a good shot. It also helps that he isn’t the first quality player to buy in to this recruiting pitch. I think the fact that he knows he’ll have Sims, Harris, Morris, Morgan and a few other quality players makes it very possible.

I’d definitely pick up Givon, and if you can keep Vogrich (relatively close to home) then you definitely extend the offer.

Besides Matt & Givon…I think there’s not much else to work in the 09 class.

But in ‘10 we DEFINITELY need to keep on Nate Lubick and…my gut says Zeigler will go for bigger and better things (IMO not UM Basketball)

I don’t think you play games with the scholarships each year (like Reed Baker), but I think you need to use them. How long is the shelf life on a coach these days? To say you’re saving a scholarship in the HOPES that you can use it next year is probably not the way to go.

If you can get a player in 2009 who will contribute, you do it.

What I’d actually like to see a list of is players who left early the past ten years. That confirms the belief that you should stock your roster to protect yourself from that.

Off the top of my head:
2008 – Udoh
2007 – Baker, Morris, Price, Smith
Before that we didn’t have much talent to leave. During the Ellerbe era we had all of the thugs drop out (Moore, Queen, Searight, Crawford, Gaines). During the Fisher era we had a lot of turnover too for various reasons (Mitchell, White, Traylor, Taylor, etc.)

I don’t personally think 2010 is a make or break year, but it would be a nice step forward if we make the tourney that year. I’d say 2011 is the big year with Manny being a senior.

I think I take one more at least for 2009. Crump looks like a great fit and Vogrich seems like a tossup that could go either way.

What would I do..recruit and sign sharp shooters..especially the wing forward..i.e. Crump.

I believe Crump will come to UM and then Vogrich is a toss up.

JB wants to get to the tourney in 2010…Sims will be a senior and the current Frosh will have a year in the system and Morris and Morgan will add something in 2010.

2010 or bust.
