i agree! I think what we need also is a high profile assistant to replace mike jackson if he is indeed leaving! Someone like jalen or even the guy from arkansas! Even if that assistant was here to just recruit those 1 to 2 athletic players that seem to dart out of detriot for other schools...if he were hired for that reason alone i think it would be worth having him on the sidelines! Then Beilein could do the rest of his recruiting! Obviously a rose recxruit would ultimatley have to go through JB but there are some players that leave detriot that even JB would be foolish to pass up! You mean to tell me that a guy like malik hairston, or cdr wouldnt flourish in JB's program?? I think they would! But then there will be some players that just wont fit into the puzzle...but the bottom line is we should at least have a couple of those guys on the team just about every year! Its proven that to go deep in the tournament you need 1 to 2 guys who are NBA potential!

We need balance and players. The league is so barren right now. Just remember back to the days when we had 2 to 3 of the top five players in the country. We always had top talent in the Big Ten. Big Dog Robinson, Bobby Jackson, Steve Smith, Calbert Cheaney, not to mention the great Michigan and Illinois teams of the late 80's. You can go back as far as you want and you won't find a dearth of talent like we have now. Pick a time period and we always had all americans.

My only argument here is that the talent is so bare that either good talent or a good system could change things drastically. It is ripe for a change and Beilien could be that guy. However, the whole league is suffering because of the lack of creativity and until someone like Beilien has success, we will have more tourney's like we just had.

once area players find out just how enjoyable and how much better they can get under JB's up and down yet controlled style...I believe a lot of local, high profile kids will consider UM as theyre school of choice!!

it would be interesting to know if a lot of the high profile guys from detroit...ie roberts, crawford, hairston, the otheer crawford at IU...would they have maybe had UM a lot higher or even picked UM if JB had been here for a while longer! The flip side of the whole nba pool in the big ten is Beilein i think does a great job of finding guys that have a lot of potential and not really being considered as an NBA prospect and builds players skill sets to the point that they are indeed NBA potential! Examples are pittsnogle and joe alexander! There are a ton of nba players that do not come into college as already NBA players(1 and dones) but to be very sucessfull in the tournament you have to be balanced. You need shooters, you need 1 or 2 guys that are athleticly NBA ready, a good big guy. Its all about balance...a melting pot of players if you will!
I think Beilein has the style of play and has the ability to develop players to really make an impact in the Big Ten! Its a very different but appealing style!

Crean to IU is not good for the league. We need some new blood and some new philosophies. The talent is draining from the mid west. Bo Ryan and Tom Izzo have a great system that makes their kids better and maximize the teams output in most years. However there is a larger price to pay and the whole league suffers by the pace of the play. If I am Beilien I carry a chart that shows the average possessions per game his WVU team had compared to MSU/ Wiscy. How are kids going to shine playing 4/5ths of a game? There are a handful of NBA prospects in the league. Memphis has more midwestern recruits that are NBA bound than our entire league (2 - Douglass Roberts (detroit) and Rose (Chicago))

Crean just perpetuates this trend. At least it isn't Bennett who would have been worse. Painter is in this same mold and we will be stuck for years to come until something changes.

These things are cyclical. The door is wide open for someone with creativity to change the Big Ten, hopefully that is Beilien.

Don't know about Jamil but I think this would definetely help Wisconsin first and foremost and then IU because of the relationship that Jamil has with Crean.

We'll have to see. I wonder if Crean can hold onto the 08 commits @ IU?

Quick question....
Does Crean possibly going to Indiana make Jamil Wilson more likely to play for:
Indiana / Marquette / Michigan / Other???

I do not think King would be a good idea for UM. Its been proven that JB really looks into a players character when recruiting them. And just from watching a few Dukes games I didnt get a real good vibe from King! But you never know! And you never know about him giving UM the time of day either. Someone in another post was mentioning about how JB's system could be a benifactor in changing the ways in the big ten! A style of play that might end up turing a few heads as well as looking more and more appealing to players! Part of JB's problem is that its new!! Its not as proven as say a Calhoun, or a Olson, or roy williams type team! JB runs things a little differently than say... the old dulldrums of an izzo team! Not saying izzo's way doesnt work but it can handcuff players at times to!
